Apr 27 2015

Well this week was awesome! I feel like it has gone by so fast, because we have done a ton, and I am exhausted! haha but I will just explain some of the main things, that I really loved from this week..

Monday Apr 20 2015 - Last Monday we went on a tour of the archive. We have three archive couples here in Stockholm but they are each in a different ward, and the one that is in our ward, the Brittons, we had take us on a tour. it was super cool! The pictures of the couple sitting down are the Birds. But the Brittons showed us all the cool books, and everything. It was really neat. Elder Israelson and Elder Luke joined us. Some of the books were giant! The cupboards full of boxes are full of books that have been cut apart so that they could read them. But the bindings on those books are INSANELY good. They are huge and really heavy, but they aren't falling apart. Tons of records from the 1500's until now. They mostly work with the 1800s and 1700s. But it was so cool to see all that they do, everyday, of taking all these pictures so that people can index them, and then other people can find their ancestors and records so that they can do their family history. It really made me appreciate the family research work that is done more. Thank you to the Brittons!

We were able to meet with this less active, her name is Soledad, she is from Chile, and we found her while tracting a building (that we thought she might live in.. but her name wasn't on the door.) and then we were able to leave her with a note and cookies that day, and later call her and set up an appointment. Little did we know, she has been feeling like she wants to come back to church, but has been scared, and not sure how. Until we came along, it gave her the courage to realize that it is really what she wants to do! So go out and reach out to those who are less active, and help them come back! Sometimes all they need is someone to care, and to invite.

Tuesday Apr 21 2015 - Then we went on exchanges this week! Guess with who!! SISTER LINDSAY!! Yes, my old companion. It was soo much fun. Literally. So fun to just be able to talk, to work together, to teach together. Everything. We taught some good lessons together, and both learned from each other. She is super, and a great example for me :) so cute. Oh, and she came to Stockholm, so I had to get us everywhere and we didn't get lost once! so proud :) haha let’s just say Stockholm travel is crazy.

Sister DeMille and I had the opportunity to teach Felicia, an investigator, who knows a ton about the church, her roommates are both members, and her parents are less active. We had a great teach with her, and she is really opening up, and we are really good friends with her now. I love her. She is so cute, and fun. We stayed for institute with her, and it was so cool to see Elder Wood, (the YSA couple) just get to know her, and really be himself which helped her a ton, because she is a pretty shy girl, until someone knows her. So fun.

Friday Apr 24 2015 - One of my favorite lessons that we had this week was on Friday, with the Pence family! They are a new American family, and have four teenagers, three girls, one boy. And one boy on a mission, who will be coming home in 3 months. And we got to have our investigators, Anna and Laura come to their home, we had dinner together, than we taught them. Laura was the one we got a baptismal date with last week! Well the sad news is that she told her mother, and she was pretty upset. She didn't want her getting baptized. But the good thing is, Anna wants to be baptized now as well, and the Pence family did a great job at helping us help them with their concerns. They still want to be baptized, and know that it is right, and they love it! They feel like their mother will soften up, and now it is just to help them continue to prepare for baptism, and then once they know everything, hopefully their mother softens up. But we will be praying for them. They are the cutest, and we had a great time there all together! The Pences are the nicest! They even sent me home with some gold fish :) eeek :) haha but it was Hanna's 13th birthday so we had cake after and everything. They are just the cutest, and the spirit was so strong with them all. It was a great experience :)

Sunday Apr 26 2015 - So, I also was asked to give a talk in sacrament meeting. So during the week during studies I had worked on it, and prepared it. It was supposed to be on member missionary work. But there were two other missionaries that would be speaking on the same topic. So I followed the spirit and tried to talk about the things I was passionate about. Of course, writing talks I think are really hard, but it was okay. I was grateful that they told me in advance so I wouldn't have to stress about it on Saturday and Sunday.. Well that kind of ended up happening anyway, because I just felt like it wasn't right. So I kept changing parts of it. Sunday morning I read it out loud and didn't like the whole first 2/3rds of it so during the 30 minutes of personal study we had before we left for church I rewrote the whole thing, and then finished it on the bus to church. haha Kind of crazy, but the spirit just led me to say other things, and it finally had made sense in my head. But it was cool to be able to just let it come. I was really grateful for the guidance that I had received.

I was still pretty terrified to get up and give it, since I had just rewritten the whole thing, but it was the coolest thing! For the first time ever my legs weren't shaking my whole talk through. haha As I stood up there, after I took a breath, the Lord really blessed me to be able to think, speak, and pronounce things clearly and at a normal speed instead of racing through it. I didn't forget things that I really wanted to talk about, although I didn't read any of it. I was able to just stand up and give it. The spirit was really strong for me. And towards the end of my talk, it was super cool, because I could tell that the spirit was in the room, and people were recognizing it. It was a huge blessing that the Lord could use me to say what they needed to hear I guess. :)

My talk focused on when we feel the power of the atonement, and the joy it brings, which is the reason we want to share it with others. Really think, when you hear the words missionary work, it may sound intimidating, but as you think about it as just sharing the joy that you have, it is a little bit easier. It really is being charitable as you share this message with those around you. Remember to offer it to them! And I talked about making new friends to share it with as well, because many feel that they have shared it with all their friends and they aren't interested- so make new friends! Then I talked about the most important missionary work being in our homes. With our self, and our family, tied in lots of general conference talks, and then talked about us as missionaries helping strengthen them as well. I felt like it was really fun, but that was because it was things I was passionate about.

After church, we ate dinner with the Guerra family, (a picture with them), they are from Peru, and are the nicest people ever. Well, that was my week, and I am just loving missionary work. I love working with people to help bring them closer to the Lord. I hope you guys have a great week and can recognize the hand of the Lord in your life! He loves each of you personally :)

Apr 20 2015

Monday Apr 13 2015 - We had a great pday! We went around Gamla Stan, which was BEAUTIFUL!! I bought a couple small souvenirs :) hehe but we mostly just took lots of gorgeous pictures. The kings palace is there, and the tons of gorgeous old old buildings with small cobblestone streets, and we had a lot of fun. Took some pictures with the guards, they were really nice, and then that night we had the FHE lesson. We have four sets of missionaries at the YSA center. The senior couple, the Woods, who just got here as I transferred to Stockholm, then the other sets of elders that are in our ward and us. We taught FHE about sharing the gospel, and it was really good actually. They seemed to really enjoy it, and it motivated people to set some good goals to go out and rescue those less active YSA's that are in the stake.

Tuesday Apr 14 2015 - We had district meeting, so that was super early in the week, and kind of through us off, so it felt like this week was really long actually. But we taught lots of lessons, and it was a good day! We also had our Ben and Jerry's adventure for free cone day! This week we thought about you Matthew!

Okay but his story is amazing (free cone day at his house since there is no longer a Ben and Jerry's in Utah). I love my uncle. He is my claim to fame. But..

The sad this is... we went to this free cone day... and then ...
CLOSED! because there were TOO MANY PEOPLE and the police came and closed it for the day! :(

We were sad.... so instead..

We bought some other ice cream to eat. Love free cone day. Lets just say it was a great way to spend our dinner. We were a little sad, and the store owners were quite disappointed, but we love Ben and Jerry's none the less. and it just makes me more excited for next year when I can come to Mathew's home for a free scoop :)

Wednesday Apr 15 2015 - Happy Tax Day everyone! :P haha how could I forget dad? The 15th of April. But we had a great day, taught Felicia again, which is one our slightly progressing investigators, but had a great time with her and a less active, Honest at institute. I love being with the YSA's I feel like I can help a lot there. I just can easily connect with them (obviously I am just a tiny bit younger than them) so it makes it easier, but it is really neat to have the opportunity to strengthen them as well. That night we had Sister GARDNER ( my baby) and Sister Sandelin, Sister Stougten and Sister Sorenson stay the night with us because Thursday brought..... Sisters conference!! But that night we had a BUNCH of fun catching up, they told me all about my favorite place called Jönköping and all my favorite people that are there! Guess what! Victoria, the one with the 18 month old, she went with Marina ( a member) to the temple on Wednesday and the sisters there got to take her on a tour and talk with her outside as Marina went in the temple. HOW COOL IS THAT?!? That girl will get baptized eventually, and I am soo excited for her.

Thursday Apr 16 2015 - SISTERs CONFERENCE!!! We had a blast with sister Beckstrand, who themed it all after Wizard of OZ! it was soo cute, and we learned great things. I loved being there and learning about charity, knowledge, and courage specifically. But also our journey home, and how we get to help others along that path and find the 'yellow brick road'. They did a great job. I loved it. It was SO much fun to see all the sister together and meet all the newer ones. But most of all to talk with my old companions was AWESOME. Especially Sister Austin and Sister Lindsay <3 LOVE THEM. It was a great time. Plus we took TOONS of pictures, we are just waiting for them to send them out to us.. But I will get them sent to you once we get them. They did a cute photo booth and everything. It was so fun, and really spiritually uplifting.

After that we went on splits with the Södertälje sisters, Sister Taylor and Sister Kamaouaha. They are super great. I went with Sister Taylor (she's been out 7 weeks now.) to Södertälje, and we had a great time getting to know each other. She was so happy to learn from me, and ask lots of questions, and open to improvement. The days of a greenie, are very humbling, and the time where you learn SO much. It made me think about how I could learn and grow just as much every day, but in the deeper more refined things... but we had a great lesson with a family, and we invited their friend on the lesson, and got him as a new investigator, soon to be with a baptismal date.

Friday Apr 17 2015 - we taught some super great lessons and it was honestly a blast! They were amazing, we got to go to serve a less active mother of four boys, who is married to a nonmember, and we actually got to teach both her and her husband at the end. They both committed to church, (I don't know if they actually went.. but I really think they would have, and if not they will go soon!). But it was just a super cool spirit with them, I feel that the gospel is what they really need in their lives right now, and it will bless and strengthen their family! Then we taught one of their progressing investigators with a baptismal date, Annm, and I was able to super connect with her over one of her concerns, and share an experience in my life, which seemed to really help her. Super cool people they have to work with, and I loved being with Sister Taylor for that time. She is such a cute girl, and a great missionary. Sweden has the best of the sister missionaries ;) hehe. But successful day!

Saturday Apr 18 2015 - we taught some good lessons, and weekly planned, and had a great time. I love being with Sister DeMille, we work our tails off, and we are exhausted afterwards!

Sunday Apr 19 2015 - great day in church, had Felicia and a potential investigator, Anil come, which was cool! I love partaking of the sacrament and that we have that opportunity every week! I am sooo grateful for that! :)

Well I love this church. This gospel really. I love being a missionary. And I am happy that the Lord is willing to use me to do His work. I love you all at home and hope you guys have a marvelous week. Don't worry Sweden is treating me great :)

Love, Sister Bolton

Apr 13 2015

Monday Apr 6 2015 - We went to an American family to have dinner and family home evening with them. It was great fun :) it seemed like we had a little American Easter vacation Saturday Sunday and Monday since we spent so much time with the American families watching conference and all. Haha but for the FHE we did a fun little object lesson with a boiled egg. They have 3 girls and a boy all teenagers, plus one boy on a mission. So it was a lot of fun. They actually just moved here about a month and a half ago from Richmond Utah. We will be doing the translating on Sunday's for them- and all the other American families. Haha

Tuesday Apr 7 2015 - We had MLC (mission leaders counsel) which was AMAZING. Seriously it is great being a sister training leader to just have the opportunity to go to those things! :) of course there will be a lot of other great things as well I am sure, but that was one of the first things. We learned a lot from president and sister Beckstrand, and then the assistants, Elder Noso (Finnish) and Elder Sahlin (Swedish). It was a great meeting, held at the mission home. They talked a lot about our study time, and how during those two hours we go into God's classroom to learn, and we need to decide what kind of student we will be. (will we fall asleep? will we take notes? will we ask questions?) It was soo good, and really motivating to everyone to focus their studies, and then how those focused studies will help us explain things in a simple manner. it was great and I loved that the spirit taught right alongside them. (picture: all of us sisters after MLC / some others that we ran into) (picture: Elder Elinkowski and Elder Tanner- the LAYTON TOWN kids! ah so much fun.)

Wednesday Apr 8 2015 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUSTIN!! (hopefully school wasn't a killer that day. But hope it was great!) we sadly got bloasted on a few times, but we were able to teach some street lessons which were great! And they are potential investigators! We talked to a bunch of people and organized a list of less actives to swing by.

Thursday Apr 9 2015 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHELSEY!! (I hope it was wonderful :) you are old. ;)) we swung by lots of the less actives, and none of them were home but we left and invitation and a note to an Easter concert that we had Sunday night. But swing bys also means talking to lots of people on the street as we travel in between :) we also got to visit some members that needed some strengthening which was nice to stop walking for a while to be able to actually teach!

Friday Apr 10 2015 - We had zone training! And the zone leaders taught what we learned at MLC on Tuesday, but in a little different way, so that was fun too. We have a lot of senior couples in our zone as well like all the ones in the archives and everything, so there were lots of people there! After we did more swing bys ( surprise! ) then taught a less active, then went out to dinner with a member (Eda) to TGI Fridays! Which was super fun! I had ribs! That was definitely the first and probably the last time I will have ribs here in Sweden, but dang it was super good. She definitely spoiled us! Oh and actual good story- I got a text from someone during zone training... and guess who it was? Emelie Marias! The less active that I worked with in Jönköping! The one I was suuuppperrr sad to leave. But I asked president if it was okay to have a conversation with her and he said go for it! So I was able to talk to her, and she actually asked some questions about doctrine, regarding the plan of salvation and her family! That night I was able to call her and we talked and I was able to testify of the beauty of the plan of salvation! The perfectness that the plan is. How her family will have another chance to accept the gospel, and that she will be able to see them again even though they aren't members of the church here and now. She was crying, and the spirit was really strong. Whenever I have taught that girl the spirit just grows HUGE inside both of us.. like I have never felt before. It is just so much happiness. I feel so blessed to have seen her come back and embrace the gospel, because it is truly the way to true and everlasting JOY! :) love love love her.

Saturday Apr 11 2015 = miracle day. This was an insane day, just how many people God put into our hands. From teaching a couple really spiritual lessons on the street to getting multiple potential investigators even by simply saying do you want to learn more about God? (To an atheist.. I've got to say no one has ever said to me "jätte gärna" after asking if they want to "learn more about our belief in God because we know it can help everyone.") and an old investigator willing to meet that day when we called him, so we met up and had an incredible lesson with him. He met with missionaries about 2 years ago, learned a lot, but has actually been studying even more online and has grown a lot in his testimony! He had deep questions and wanting to understand more, so we are excited to teach him. But the spirit was so strong with us throughout the whole day- and I think that is because we worked our tails off, and the Lord blessed us abundantly! It was crazy :) His hand is really in this work and I am so grateful for it! :) (ps. we have tons of missionaries here that are in my group, and they called it to my attention that we have hit 10 months. sheesh I could swear they are trunky ;) just kidding. it is just weird it is going faster.)

Sunday Apr 12 2015 - Church was great! It was super fun to meet all the members and everything! We taught a lesson and finished weekly planning, and went to the Easter conference with a less active and an investigator. Oh all of our investigators were out of town this past week because of Easter holiday. So that is why we just did a bunch of swing by's this week. But as we have planned for the coming week... we don't know how we are going to fit everyone in now :) (as long as they follow through as well..) But we are very excited!

I have been studying about Charity, and I decided to read about the stripling warriors, and the attributes of Christ that they had. I noticed is how truly charitable they are. In verse 47 of chapter 56 of Alma it talks about how they "thought more on the liberty of their fathers than on their own lives." Which I think is pretty amazing. True charity is the pure love of Christ, no selfishness, but willing to do anything for another. I am trying to apply that in my life, to really give my talents and abilities to those around me at all times, and to just love them as Christ would! To put them before myself, and it feels so good!

Sister DeMille is stupendous! We work great together, and I love being here in Stockholm it is new, but fun. Sister DeMille and I have set some big goals, and we put a little pressure on each other to fulfill them, so it is super helpful! We also are running every morning, and it feels sooo nice to run again! ah. I love it. I am so exhausted every day, but somehow I can get back up and go again all because I love the Lord!

Well I love you guys sooo much! I hope I don't bore you too much with my emails. But thanks for listening anyways! I love you dearly! Have a great week, and remember to review conference!

LOVE, Cassie

Apr 6 2015

Let's just say this week was quite the craziness!! ahh!

Well, I am kind of happy to say I have lots of emails- so I don't have so much time today. (so thanks to all you guys.)

But a rundown of this week...

Monday Mar 30 2015 - last Pday in Jönköping! So weird. But we had a bunch of fun together. Went on a little hike adventure with Lasse and the Elders and took some gorgeous photos of the area. Gonna miss this place! Then we had some chicken banana curry pizza with Alex and the elders! Good little party. After some just preparations for the week, and some missionary work, we also were requested at family home evening, where Alex, put on a little surprise birthday cake celebration for me. Super super nice of him. His sister made the cake (since she is pro at that.) and we all had a good time. But just before that we played a game with all the YSA's and rikki came! We did it with flour and a coin. So flour all over our faces by the end! haha it was a great time, and I seriously couldn't say thank you enough to all of them! Plus, Alex's dad gave me a chain and pearl necklace. Seriously, the nicest people ever. I felt very spoiled. It was really hard to say goodbye to everyone!

Tuesday Mar 31 2015 - Well I can't even describe this day in full. Pretty much we said good bye to TON's of people. I love them all and I will DEFINITELY have to be coming back to Jönköping to see all of these people again. AH. I miss them already. But we went on a walk with Stephanie Ahlström, taught a street lesson, visited Jennifer Thörn and said goodbye, visited an old lady, Sonja Lindberg (cutest gal ever.), visited Amy, and she.. ah that was a hard goodbye. She treats me like an angel, but she is the real one. We had dinner with Bishop and Sister Wallgren and said goodbye to them- I have loved working so much with them and will definitely miss them. Then we had an activity with Lasse and Nema where they taught us all how to bake! Super fun. Then we taught Emelie one last time, had an INCREDIBLE lesson with her. She said she will be at church next week and the next. It is no question now, she is back and riding. SO AMAZING. of course there will be other things to repent of as well I am sure, but how cool that she has decided to do it and nothing is holding her back now!

Wednesday Apr 1 2015 - GOODBYE JÖNKÖPING!! Hello Stockholm!! Well that was a sad train ride at the beginning. But then the second train that I switched too I got to color and read with a little girl for like 40 minutes. haha she was the cutest. Good contact with her mother :)
Anyway, got to Stockholm that afternoon, found a whole bunch of other missionaries that were transferring then we headed home. That night, my first day in Stockholm we taught an investigator, and then went with her to institute. After the introduction of institute, we were actually asked to teach! So we decided to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, out of the blue. It was really neat because my Swedish words just came. I felt like I could speak so well, also Sister DeMille and I taught together great, especially being the second time ever, without ever studying together. So that was a great experience between the Lord leading us to be able to teach together, that my Swedish was very clear, and afterwards one of the YSA's came up to me and thanked me because that was exactly what she needed, and we had no idea! It was really neat how the spirit really worked through the both of us to make that a success :)

Sister DeMille is originally from Monticello Utah (like 2 blocks from the temple), and graduated from Davis High School (only senior year there.), She has also graduated from Utah State with a Pre Vet major, and she is 22. We get a long great! so fun :)

Thursday Apr 2 2015 - We did good missionary work and met some people and talked to some weird people :) haha

Friday Apr 3 2015 - Good stuff as well, taught a few lessons and did weekly planning and split up the Stockholm area between us and two other sets of elders so we hit our area books organizing for a while.

Saturday Apr 4 2015 - Happy birthday to me! :) Sister DeMille made me banana bread that morning, then we stuck a candle on it (yes it says 21.. we didn't have one that said 20! haha) and she sang to me. It was fantastic :) Opened my birthday presents- thank you soooo much!! I absolutely looove them! You guys are wonderful! Oh something really cool is that I was able to SIGN with some deaf people on the subway and it was LEGIT. Although they spoke Swedish sign language, I was able to understand parts, and then use the phone to type something they could read and then they taught me how to sign it in SSL. SOOO Cool. haha what a neat opportunity, and it was pretty cool for them too! Hopefully they will read about the church! Then we went to this amazing family's house and ate, watched conference, and ate cake (I blew out some more candles- so that was fun.) Ah people are amazing here too.

"DELICIOUS cookies from Grandpa Parks :) THANK YOU AND LOVE YOU!!!"

Sunday Apr 5 2015 - We watched lots of conference, ate lots of great food, met some more members, and had a blast! Seriously love General Conference! I really was able to find some answers to my prayers, which I am sooo grateful for. It was amazing to listen to the prophet speak to us. Can't wait until we get to watch the last session as well. But so far, my favorite was the Sunday Morning Session. Oh my AMAZING.

Well, here is a scripture that I found was neat this week..

Alma 43:20 This is right in the middle of the war chapters, but something I thought was really cool, is that when the Lamanites and the Nephites come to war at this time, that the Nephites are there with a righteous cause, but they are also prepared. They have not only weapons, but armor as well. The Lamanites meet them and they are full of fear for the fact that they realize they have no armor, no protection. And this is because Satan, although he wants you on his team, he doesn't want to help you, and he will not protect you. There is no armor for those on Satan’s team, and that is how it always was and always will be. Satan doesn't love us, and he doesn't care to actually protect us. While our Father in Heaven does. I loved seeing that application, and how true it is here in life!

I love this gospel and I know it is true! Thank you for everything! I love you all!!
